What will you remember about your aliyah 20 years from now?
The world is rapidly changing and there is no better way to remember the events and experiences of your aliyah than with a time capsule.
Time capsules are containers filled with objects representing life at the present moment and sealed for a set amount of time or buried for discovery in the future. Time capsule containers may be as simple as a cardboard box or sophisticated as a waterproof stainless steel tube.
Filling up your time capsule can be a fun, memory making, family experience where everyone can be involved.
Here’s what you do:
- Determine the container for your time capsule. You can use household items like a cardboard box, gutted desktop computer case, Rubbermaid tub, or even a piece of luggage you don’t plan to use again. Alternatively, you can buy a time capsule container online.
- Select time indicative items for your time capsule. Look about your home for things that scream 2022 — and can fit in the container.
- Seal the time capsule and determine the opening date. Be sure to record the open date and location in a way or place that will not get lost.
Whether you open your time capsule in 10, 15 or 20 years I am confident you will be absolutely amazed at the changes in your family, friends and the world around you.
Let us know (here) about your aliyah time capsule making experience.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Have an awesome day!
I still have my aliyah paperwork from ten years ago in an accordion file. That’s my time capsule!

What a great idea! I wasn’t thinking time capsule; but because I know that time alters memory, I did start a blog and finally published two books on our aliyah. When I re-read some of the essays, I am amazed at how we have grown and changed over the last 14 years. A time capsule would be a fun project. But if you don’t do that, at least keep a journal!
